Starting Vintage Heel Collection 101

Collecting vintage heels has always been one of my favourite parts of fashion. There’s something special about finding a pair that feels unique. Over time, it almost starts to feel like a treasure hunt. Every pair has its own history, and that’s part of what makes collecting vintage shoes so fun.

For anyone interested in starting a vintage heel collection, the best advice is to start small and collect pieces you genuinely love. You don’t need a huge collection right away. Sometimes it’s better to focus on finding a few pairs that really stand out to you.

One thing I’ve noticed about vintage heels is the quality. A lot of older designer shoes were made with so much attention to detail, and you can really see it when you find a good pair. The materials and craftsmanship often feel different from a lot of shoes you see today, which is part of why vintage heels can still feel so stylish years later.

It’s also nice to think about how you’d actually wear the shoes when building your collection. Some pairs are great everyday heels that you could wear with something simple like jeans and a tee, while others might be more of a statement piece. Having a mix of both makes collecting them even more fun.

What I love most about vintage heels is that they add so much personality to an outfit. Even if the rest of your outfit is simple, a great pair of vintage shoes can completely change the look.

For me, collecting vintage heels is actually what sparked the idea for Before You Go. I’ve always loved vintage shoes and the character they have. My best friend Donia is amazing at sourcing vintage pieces, and we realized we both shared the same love for them. That’s what eventually inspired us to start Before You Go together .Before You Go is a curated archive of vintage designer heels. We source authentic vintage pairs and love to say that the heels have past lives and present potential, giving them a second life in someone else’s wardrobe.

At the end of the day, starting a vintage heel collection doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s really just about finding pairs that you’re excited about and slowly building your collection over time. That’s what makes it fun.
